Impossible Possibilities

This painting shows what it is like to be chronically ill. To have to let go of all your ideas, dreams, beauty, desires and talents.

You see a woman lying down with her eyes closed, no longer able to take in the vastness and possibilities of her surroundings. Her arms and legs lie in an uncomfortable, closed, position. By which I am trying to express her inability to move freely.

At the top of the painting you can see dozens of bubbles filled with ideas, dreams, beauty, desires and talents. The bubbles float by without her being able to reach or touch them. She is separated from them by a wide brown band that is pierced only very occasionally. Allowing her a brief moment to be in contact with a life beyond her small world.

The large flower below her feet represents her promising start, before she was stricken with her chronic illness and limitations.

A new year, a new beginning, or is it?

Every new year begins with hope. Will this year finally bring that improvement, or recognition, who knows even a cure? In that respect, it is mostly a new beginning with renewed hope. The new year will tell.

How proud I was to win the first prize with it!
